All are gifted in different ways and it is necessary to cultivate their talents as much as possible.
Promised Land Ministries
Promised Land Ministries was founded in 1990 by Roberto and Ita Santizo. Guatemala was in the midst of a long civil war and children, especially, were suffering from the effects of the war – hunger, lack of educational and health care opportunities, and spiritual darkness. In those early years, PLM focused on providing food for children in Guatemala City and elsewhere. By 1995, God had given Ita and Roberto a vision for a ministry that would address both the immediate and the longer-term consequences of poverty. The Santizos’ adult children joined the work of PLM, and by 1995 what would become a permanent and life-changing presence was established in San Lucas Toliman, situated on the shores of Lake Atitlán in the western highlands of Guatemala.
Partnering with local churches and mission teams from the United States, Canada, Brazil, and other countries, PLM now provides educational opportunities, access to medical care, home construction, children’s ministries, and more.
Promised Land School, established in 2010, has grown significantly over the years, currently serving 340 students from Pre-K through 10th grade. Beyond 10th grade, students have the option to pursue either a high school diploma (an additional 2 years) or a vocational degree(an additional 3 years).
Along with its academic offerings, Promised Land School boasts a thriving marching band program that has achieved notable success, garnering multiple trophies in various local and regional competitions. This program provides students with opportunities for artistic expression, teamwork, and personal growth beyond the classroom.
Overall, Promised Land School is dedicated to providing a comprehensive education that prepares students for success in both academic and vocational pursuits, while also fostering their talents and achievements outside of traditional academic settings. In addition to receiving a quality education, students regularly hear the Good News of God’s great love for them as revealed in Jesus Christ and told in the pages of the Bible.
PLM’s vision is to partner with local churches in sharing the gospel with as many people as possible, while also addressing the root causes of poverty through offering quality education, providing for immediate healthcare needs, transforming living conditions with sustainable housing and cooking options, and promoting healthy physical growth through proper nutrition.
